New Ideas and Notes from meeting
- Social Landscape Map
- to eliminate the silos of organizations in the community
- commercial software for social mapping: Mark has been working up a speech/presentation for RELP (see below)
- need a map of the central core of Ptbo initiatives: who does what, what are the services they offer
- some of the larger orgs are maybe abusing some of their privileges while the smaller orgs are stifled because they’re all going after the same money
- hell hath no fury like a charity protecting itself
- are there too many vested interests? charity posts used as rewards for political vehicles?
- a curious, socially charged citizen of the community maybe should document it, when one sees people in poverty and then the questionable aspect is happening.
- question: is the point that the money doesn’t come out the bottom end of the funnel and actually serve the people it was meant to? yes.
- status quo is if you don’t know somebody, forget it
- can do it as a curious person, going in with an agenda
- with funding, how many salaries does that cover? discussion of the ‘poverty industry’
- there are 23 employment agencies in Ptbo, all publicly funded
- Ptbo has the highest number of not-for-profit orgs in Canada
- put somebody in the hotseat when asked questions in a curiosity mission, questions really need to be asked with what’s happening with poverty and homelessness in our community
- you give money to United Way and feel good, and go away
- log identification workshop mark updated
-
so many agencies developing jobs, but what jobs?
- Podcamp 2014
- Bill T attended a podcamp, where techies get together to talk about changing the world with tech
- is radio one of these dying techs? no, now you can be a radio station
- Ideas Ptbo podcast? good idea, what about Luddites? maybe a newsletter
- rural areas already utilize bulletins, whose truck is broken down? you can listen and still do other things
- shortwave has a lot of white space now because everyone’s online
-
for the coming apocalypse - seriousness - a windup shortwave receiver would be one thing to have
- Climate Change concerns
-
methane hydrates melting triggered by earthquake in Greenland article drew some eyes leading up to the meeting
-
- RELP
- movie clip, sound, RELP - the mapping database, showing everything and all interconnections - it’s a person identifier, about who you should talk to, * Lester saw this and said I want this to be the front end to an interactive movie
- allows nesting of events
-
is this is a Conservative’s dream database of social activists? Harper already knows who they are :)
- bring Streetcars back
- the link above leads to two more sizeable pages on the wiki
- urban transit infrastructure is a considerable positive public investment - more valuable than a parkway.
- if there is interest we could start considering a new network and researching equipment suitable to Peterborough
- idea is to get ptbo on the bandwagon about getting serious about transit with other cities our size, Gord up in Lakefield
- Canadian electric railway map, click on it on the wiki, mark has been happily ‘gardening’ on it :)
- uncle is an urban rail enthusiast, links for world and Canadian streetcar stuff going on
-
streetcars as an interesting response to the parkway

Our [winter"](http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=656899377689489&set=p.656899377689489&type=1&theater "new) as the jetstream alters course - giving up on agriculture all over
-
Mark gives epic description of why the jetstream has "no more ramp"
-
"Deconstruction Hub" as in Vancouver
- ‘marketing’ of Ideas Peterborough - we’ve been invited to write a brief (300 word) post by @ptbo_canada / @neilmorton who contacted us via @halllenard
- suggestion was that all the related initiatives - makerspace, ec power plant, sewcial, repair cafe, b!ke, and ideas peterborough could all use promotion and perhaps instead of a one off article we should consider a series that features one initiative each week but cross promotes too.
- get the word out on opportunities in Ptbo, to get it out to a wider audience – networking is the biggest thing.
- @Ptbo_canada twitter now has 10,000 followers
Carry forward from previous meeting
- What’s up with TheMount - repurposing spaces
- shared solar
Next Chair
