Spectrum Interferometer
Public frequency bands are crowded enough without private corporations crowding the spectrum by spilling over from neighboring bands.
Case in point, 3G frequency in Canada now has numerous centers between 1.7 - 2.2 GHz. This however has roll-off on either side, and side bands which spill in to other bands. For telco equipment which is not effectively tuned, of certain caliber, or filtered, this can render open public bands severely degraded, or nearly useless. That is, modern interference fighting Bluetooth, DECT6.0, and WiFi can all be rendered inoperable or significantly limited by an unreasonably high noise floor.
- What are the regs regarding acceptable roll-off/side band transmission from licensed spectrum?
- Are there avenues of recourse?
- Can we build a device to quantify and identify impeding sources and levels?
- Can we quantify the amount of spectrum lost city/province/country-wide due to such practices?
