Official Community Plan

The City of Victoria official community plan can be found here. We noted last night that the questions were all double barrelled, take for example the first question:

  • "Allow a greater mix of land uses in the urban core, town centres, village centres and employment district as long as they are consistent with the scale and place character of the surrounding area."*

This is more than one question, in fact it is several:

  • Allow a greater mix of land uses in the urban core?
  • Allow a greater mix of land uses in town centres?
  • Allow a greater mix of land uses in village centres?
  • Allow a greater mix of land uses in employment districts?
  • Does increasing the mix of land uses need to be consistent with scale and place character of the surrounding area in urban cores?
  • Does increasing the mix of land uses need to be consistent with scale and place character of the surrounding area in town centres?
  • Does increasing the mix of land uses need to be consistent with scale and place character of the surrounding area in village centres?
  • Does increasing the mix of land uses need to be consistent with scale and place character of the surrounding area in employment districts?

The advantage of tying eight questions into one with multiple choice answer options is that you’ve worded the question in a way that gets you the desired answer you are looking for.
